"It’s not really fair to ask a songwriter, “What’s your favorite song that you’ve written?” or “What’s your favorite album that you’ve made?” They are all your children after all. But if I was hard-pressed I think “Traveller” would get my vote. This is the only album I’ve done where I was involved in every aspect of the process. Normally, I’m not much of a concept person. I don’t have ideas about cover artwork or song running orders, etc.
But on “Traveller” I was into all of it. It began when I came across one of my father’s paintings, which suited the album title perfectly. I was writing or co-writing everything, planning rehearsals, negotiating recording studio fees, booking hotels and plane flights, recruiting the players and coming up with sleeve art concepts. It all seemed to slot into place. It’s probably the hardest work I’ve ever done. It’s also got some of the best songs I have ever written on it. Songs like “Miracle Days”, “Traveller” and “Think Of Me In The Fall” all have a real story behind them."
