"I had taken myself totally out of the game in 1996. I wasn’t interested in making music professionally anymore. I was driving a forklift truck and running a shipping department in a factory. But then this project came along. The album was already finished and there was a small record label in the UK ready to release it, but there was one problem: nobody liked the original singer’s voice. Somehow, they figured out how to get in touch with me.
There are some truly great players on it. Mark Mangold on keyboards, Al Pitrelli on guitars, Chuck Bonfante on drums and Mitch DeStefano on bass. And when I heard the songs….I had to be part of it!! This is music that I had wanted to make all of my life. Down and dirty blues rock in the style of Bad Company and the Black Crowes. Maybe a little of the Stones’ “Exile On Main Street” thrown in for good measure. I recorded the vocals at Mark’s place in NYC over a period of about a week. I remember coming in on the fifth or sixth day and saying that I needed a break because I was too hoarse. As soon as he heard my rasping voice he said, “No! That’s great! We have to record that!” And we did. I still love to listen to this album and it’s got nothing to do with the fact that I’m singing on it. I just love these songs."
