Lyrics

From The Inside - From The Inside

NOTHING AT ALL

You live in a prison or reasons
Four walls and your pain on display
Tragic figure left with no plan of escape
But there is a way

I’ve looked deep inside that dark
And I know that without love
We could lose it all

Tell me you’ve never taken chances
Tell me you will take my hand
To walk in this world and all it’s expanses
Believe when I say
That it takes nothing at all

I’ve looked out beyond this horizon
I’ve seen past this damaged day
The wind blows a thousand chances your way
And we can celebrate

I’ve seen deep inside this heart
And I know that with this love
We can dare to have it all

Tell me you’ve never taken chances
Tell me now is the leap of faith
And what in this world can stop us from dancing
Believe when I say
There is nothing at all

You can sing a litany of worries
A million ways to place the blame
It’s your choice to bear the burden
Or just walk away
And here I am with my hand out
Walking every step beside you
Yeah

Tell me you’ve never taken chances
Tell me now is the leap of faith
And what in this world can stop us from dancing
Believe when I say
There is nothing
Tell me you’ve never taken chances
Turn away from the pain of it all
’Cause loving and living, is taking and giving
Believe when I say
It can be nothing at all
Nothing at all

BLESSING IN DISGUISE

I hit the Tennessee Valley with the snow coming down
Pulled the car over and took a good, long look around
I had the future in my headlights, the wind at my back
Heard my darling softly sleeping, curled up in the back
Hitched up to a 4 by 8 with everything we own
I said, “Honey, I think that we're home”

It's been 14 days since my hometown well ran dry
Didn't seem to take too long to pack it up and say goodbye
So long to broken promises, “Adios” to the bitter end
That highway's rushing at us looking like a long lost friend
One door closes and another swings wide
Hey, baby, it's snowing outside

I've been trying and hoping and crying
That things might turn out otherwise
But sometimes the hardest moments
Can be a blessing in disguise

Somebody once told me and I know that it's true
If you hide away from the world it'll come looking for you
So I will go where I am taken, I will look where I'm led
Let your body be my blanket, your love be my bed
One door opens and another shuts tight
Suddenly everything's right

I've been saying and hoping and praying
That things might turn out otherwise
But sometimes the hardest moments
Can be a blessing in disguise

I've been saying and hoping and praying
That things might turn out otherwise
Sometimes the hardest moments
Can be a blessing in disguise

I've been trying and hoping and crying
That things might turn out otherwise
Sometimes the hardest moments
Can be a blessing in disguise
Sometimes the hardest moments
Can be a blessing in disguise

IS ANYBODY WATCHING ME
10/10/88-3/7/89

These airport windows
They stare out a million miles
And buses roll out every day
Train station feels like home to this gypsy child
It’s all good-bye, either way

Time waits, time flies
Time always magnifies
How long, how far away
So I get on my knees and pray

Is anybody watching me?
Does anybody care
That the world can’t fill the space
When you’re not there?
Is anybody watching me?
Does anybody know
That my heart’s an empty room
When you’re not home?

The wheels turn in rhythm
And the dust turns to dust
I turn my eyes up to the stars
Nothing but open sky between the two of us
The deepest cuts leave no scars

Love calls, love burns
Love is always taking turns
Pulling closer, pushing farther away
So I get on my knees and pray
Is anybody watching me?
Does anybody care
That the world can’t fill the space
When you’re not there?
Is anybody watching me?
Does anybody know
That my heart’s an empty room
When you’re not home?

The way you came to me was just like a miracle
But looking at the sky, I got to know
I got to, got to know....

Is anybody watching me?
Does anybody care
That the world can’t fill the space
When you’re not there?
Is anybody watching me?
Does anybody know
That my heart’s an empty room
When you’re not home?

Is anybody watching me?

ALWAYS

I walked you down to the river’s edge
Your fingers traced the watercourse
You cast your hopes upon the current
And bid them sail to foreign shores
I felt the quickening of your heartbeat
I heard you speak without a sound
And though I hold you in these arms of mine
I will never hold you down

Take your wings and take your chances
Point your sails into the storm
Open up the doors to that big, wide world
That waits with open arms
And I will know the roads you’ve taken
Through your wild and restless days
And I know that I will follow
Always

You’ve got friends that think you’re crazy
They can’t hear the wild wind blow
They never wanted to go nowhere
Now they’ve got nowhere to go
When everyone you know is bleeding
From the wounds they made themselves
And how long this fragile landscape lasts
Nobody can tell

Take your wings and take your chances
Point your sails into the storm
Open up the doors to that big, wide world
That waits with open arms
I will know the roads you’ve taken
Through your wild and restless days
And I know that I will follow
Always

Leave your kiss upon my lips
Take a piece of my heart
And I will find you where you go
No matter where you are

Take your wings and take your chances
Point your sails into the storm
Open up the doors to that big, wide world
That waits with open arms
And I will know the roads you’ve taken
Through your wild and restless days
And I know that I will follow
Always
